Illegal Border Crossings Surging — in Vermont

Border authorities in Vermont are warning that illegal migrant traffic is surging in the region.
While most attention on the Biden migrant crisis is focused on the southwest border, the United States is facing growing threats along many other frontiers.
In recent weeks, hundreds of illegal aliens have been caught entering Border Patrol’s Swanton Sector, which covers the entire state of Vermont, as well as New Hampshire and part of New York.
More than 1,000 illegals were apprehended in Swanton Sector during Fiscal Year 2022.
However, that number could triple this fiscal year, which began on October 1.
“Upward Trend Continues: 25 days into October & Swanton Sector #BorderPatrol has encountered nearly 25% of the 1,065 total encounters for Fiscal Year 2022,” Swanton Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Keith Hoops wrote on social media on Wednesday.
“Our Agents work hard round-the-clock to keep our country & communities safe.”

Agent Hoops shared multiple examples of recent busts, all of which took place in Vermont.
- Oct. 9: Five people were arrested in a suspected human smuggling event near the Morses Line, a border crossing which connects Saint-Armand, Quebec, with Franklin, Vermont.
- Oct. 12: Seven people were arrested near the Morses Line in a suspected human smuggling attempt.
- Oct. 16: Seven people were arrested near the Highgate Springs Port of Entry in a suspected human smuggling attempt.

The Department of Justice is handling all three cases, at least two of which involve legal residents of the U.S.
Encounters of illegal aliens in Swanton Sector have increased every month since January.
