“Romanian Organized Criminals” Busted In Michigan Amid Nationwide Theft Spree
Three female suspects were arrested in Michigan and turned over to immigration authorities after stealing tens of thousands of dollars in merchandise from stores across the U.S., according to reports.
Investigators believe the women are “Romanian organized criminals” who were finally busted following a heist at a grocery store last week in Bloomfield Township, located in the suburbs of Detroit.
“Ohio, Maryland, Arizona – they’ve been all over the country, at least this vehicle has,” Bloomfield Township police officer Nick Soley told Fox 2.
Surveillance footage shows four women raiding Plum Market, ultimately making off with around $7,000 in vitamins and supplements.
“Stuffed into skirts, false pockets inside – they have pockets sewn in — and as much as they can grab,” Officer Soley said.
“You’ll see them look directly into the camera and then look back down and continue what they’re doing.”
Three of the alleged thieves were nabbed a short time later when their vehicle was spotted in nearby Auburn Hills. The fourth suspect remains at large, according to the latest available updates.
They were found to be in possession of around $23,000 worth of clothes, makeup, perfume, vitamins, supplements, and other items stolen from big box stores, chain retailers, and local shops.
“We know there’s probably a resale somewhere on it, but where exactly it goes and how they resell it – that’s a piece of the puzzle we haven’t quite figured out,” Soley explained.
While the immigration statuses of the suspects are currently unclear, some social media users have suggested they may be “gypsies” or “Roma” from Romania.
An investigation is ongoing.
