An illegal alien who has been removed from the United States more than 40 times was caught transporting migrants in Ohio over the weekend, according to reports.

On Saturday morning, Border Patrol agents in Detroit Sector were alerted by Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) about a likely human smuggling attempt.

OSHP troopers pulled over a minivan with a cracked windshield on the Ohio Turnpike when they found nearly a dozen people riding in the vehicle.

Neither the driver nor 10 passengers could produce documents proving they were lawfully in the U.S. and all later confirmed they had entered the country illegally.

“During processing at the Border Patrol station in Port Clinton, it was discovered that the driver had been previously removed from the United States more than 40 times since 2006,” Customs and Border Protection explained in a press release.

The driver was found to be in possession of large amounts of cash.

The illegal migrants told authorities they or their relatives had paid for them to be picked up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and transported to destinations in many eastern states, including Florida, Tennessee, and Virginia.

The driver has been charged with alien smuggling and is expected to face prosecution by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio.
