An illegal alien who has been deported at least three times was arrested for killing a mother and her two young children in an arson attack in California, according to reports.

On Friday, the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) announced the apprehension of 59-year-old J. Carmen Cardoza Rodriguez in Modesto, CA.

Cardoza Rodriguez, also known as Jose Carmona, had been on the run for weeks following a deadly fire on June 25 in Stockton, CA.

Cardoza Rodriguez allegedly “set fire to a camper parked at a residence in the 30 block of Visalia Court in Stockton, killing his ex-spouse Lizbeth Josefina Gutiérrez, 33, and her two sons, ages 7 and 10,” USMS explained in a press release.

On Thursday afternoon, USMS received a tip that Cardoza Rodriguez was spotted at a bus stop in Modesto and he was taken into custody a short time later, bringing an end to a nationwide manhunt.

Fox News has obtained information from a source close to the investigation indicating Cardoza Rodriguez, whose citizenship is unclear, has been deported from the U.S. at least three times.

“Cardoza faces charges of murder, attempted murder and child endangerment, as well as special circumstances allegations of multiple murder, arson and torture, which make him eligible for the death penalty,” the outlet reports.

The boys killed in the blaze were reportedly not the suspect’s sons. A third boy managed to escape.

Cardoza Rodriguez is being held in San Joaquin County Jail without bail.

“The U.S. Marshals Service Task Force in the Eastern District of California worked countless hours and traveled great distances to locate this violent fugitive,” Lasha Boyden, U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of California., said in a statement.

“Thanks to a tipster, we were able to act quickly and take this suspect into custody safely and without incident. The loss of life in this horrific tragedy was felt by the community and our nation. I hope his capture brings some sense of relief to the victims’ family.”
