FRANCE: Migrant Holds Toddler at Knifepoint, Demands Mother's Valuables During Violent Rampage
An illegal migrant from Africa was convicted in a terrifying robbery during which he grabbed a toddler from her mother and held the child at knifepoint on a street in France last week, according to reports.
The harrowing incident unfolded on September 14 in Ris-Orangis, a commune in the Paris suburbs.
A young mother was exiting a bus with her 2-year-old daughter when a man behind her asked for the time.
"Madam, what time is it?" the man repeated in a more demanding tone as she turned around.
The woman says she reached for her phone to check for him, releasing her grip on her daughter.
Suddenly, the man grabbed her child by the throat and pulled out a knife.
"Drop the phone or I'll stab her!" the man yelled.
The woman handed over her phone while screaming for help, and the thief fled the scene.
"The 25-year-old suspect then attacked two other women near the station," Le Parisien reports.
"He grabbed one from behind putting his knife to her throat and demanding they give him their phone. But a police vehicle, which was looking for him, arrived at that time and he was quickly arrested with the stolen phone."
The man was later identified as a Moroccan national who is illegally present in France.
He denied using violence or a weapon during the robbery spree, but was convicted and sentenced to six months in prison.
