ICE Arrests Brazilian Illegal Charged With Raping Child
A Brazilian fugitive who is wanted on child rape charges in his homeland was apprehended by federal immigration authorities in Massachusetts after more than a year on the loose in the U.S.
On Friday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the arrest of a 23-year-old illegal alien in Framingham, a city in the Boston metro region.
The Brazilian was caught by U.S. Border Patrol on July 12, 2023, after he illegally entered the country near Lukeville, Arizona.
He was served with a notice to appear before a federal immigration judge in the future and released into the interior on July 14, 2023.
“Authorities in Brazil are currently seeking custody of the fugitive to face charges for the crime of rape of a vulnerable person – 13-year-old child. If convicted, the Brazilian fugitive faces up to 15 years in prison,” ICE explained in a press release.
The Brazilian was arrested by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) agents near his residence in Framingham on July 23, 2024, and is currently in custody.
“This Brazilian fugitive violated a minor in his home country and attempted to hide out in our Massachusetts neighborhoods. We will not allow New England to become a safe haven for the world’s criminals,” ICE ERO Boston Field Office Director Todd M. Lyons said in a statement.
Authorities continue to catch dangerous foreign criminals illegally present in the U.S., many of whom have been previously released into the country by law or immigration enforcement agencies.
