Italian police arrested an African migrant after he allegedly sexually assaulted a young girl and was subsequently beaten by vigilantes over the weekend, according to reports.

The disturbing incident unfolded on Saturday morning in Rome.

A man exposed his private parts to an 11-year-old girl and was attempting to rape her in front of a cafe in the Centocelle neighborhood when the girl's mother and some patrons came out and interrupted the attack.

The suspect attempted to flee, but was caught by around a dozen people who proceeded to beat the creep before police arrived.

Authorities were initially called by a witness who claimed that a 'black boy' was being 'lynched' by a mob, but after an investigation, police learned what had transpired and arrested the alleged sex predator, Corriere reports.

He was later identified as a 25-year-old male illegally present in Italy, 7Colli reports.

Incredibly, La Repubblica framed the incident as a 'racially-motivated beating' of a 'foreign boy,' and other mainstream outlets engaged in similar spin, highlighting reports the suspected predator had been the victim of 'racist' insults.

The suspect was not seriously injured and was taken into custody by the Carabinieri.
