A major military base in Texas was locked down after a smuggler carrying illegal aliens crashed through multiple gates and escaped on foot, according to reports.

The incident unfolded on Friday morning at Laughlin Air Force Base near Del Rio, TX.

Authorities told NewsNation correspondent Ali Bradley that at least five illegal aliens climbed into a vehicle near Eagle Pass and then began to evade Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) troopers.

During the pursuit, the driver smashed through at least two security gates and was on-base for around 10 minutes, Bradley reports.

The driver abandoned the damaged vehicle and all occupants fled on foot.

While sources initially told Bradley the suspect and most of the passangers had been apprehended, TxDPS spokesman Lt. Chris Olivarez later clarified that all occupants were still at large.

The lockdown order was lifted at Laughlin but neither the suspect nor the illegals have been located, according to the latest available updates.

The breach comes amid mounting concerns over an increase of security incidents involving foreign nationals at and around military facilities across the U.S.

U.S. Fleet Forces Command Commander Admiral Daryl Caudle recently appeared on Fox News to explain how attempted penetrations of military bases by foreign nationals are occurring nearly on a daily basis.

“This thing of our military bases getting penetrated by foreign nationals is happening more and more. This is something we see probably two or three times a week, where we’re stopping these folks at the gate,” Adm. Caudle said.

Dangerous smuggling pursuits unfold constantly along the U.S.-Mexico border.
