SHOCK VIDEO: Smuggler Abandons 1-Year-Old Migrant Child at Border River
A 1-year-old boy was abandoned by a human smuggler on the bank of a river along the U.S.-Mexico border this week, authorities say.
The disturbing incident unfolded on Monday afternoon at the Colorado River near Yuma, Arizona.
Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz shared surveillance footage showing the toddler being deposited just feet from flowing waters before an agent rushed to the rescue.
“A one-year-old Guatemalan child was abandoned along the Colorado River Monday afternoon by a smuggler who took him across the border and then left him to fend for himself along the water’s edge. Thanks to our agent’s quick response, tragedy was averted!” Ortiz explained on social media.
The smuggler can be seen entering a zone between two rows of border barrier, placing the child on the ground, and running back into Mexico.
A border agent in a pickup truck can then be seen racing to a nearby entrance and speeding towards the child as he wanders around.
Ortiz later shared a photo of the child safe in the arms of a Border Patrol agent.
The shocking episode comes just days after a 2-year-old boy was found alone at the border by a female illegal alien who escorted him until he was taken into custody by Texas Department of Public Safety troopers.
“Moments ago we encountered a 2-year-old boy unaccompanied minor who was abandoned at the border according to a migrant woman who found the boy,” Newsnation correspondent Jorge Ventura reported on Tuesday.
“He’s wearing a makeshift ID with a Louisiana address on it. We encountered them with a group of Chinese nationals who just crossed illegally into Texas.”
Customs and Border Protection encountered more than 57,000 unaccompanied minors during the first five months of Fiscal Year 2023.
