Federal authorities have filed an immigration detainer against a man arrested for sexually assaulting two girls under the age of 13 during a home invasion in Michigan, according to reports.

Deputies with the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office were called to a residence in the city of Sturgis on March 20.

While investigating a break-in, they learned two preteen girls had been sexually assaulted by a male suspect who forced entry into the home.

“The sheriff’s office said that video surveillance of the vehicle that was suspected to be involved was found, and deputies identified the suspect as a 25-year-old Sturgis man, who had taken off before being questioned,” Wood TV reported on Friday.

The suspect reportedly fled the state but was later tracked down and arrested in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He was charged with first-degree home invasion as well as two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct against a person under 13 years of age.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer against the suspect as well, indicating he is likely illegally present in the United States.

Limited information is currently available about this case, but we will continue to monitor as it develops.
